Buying your first home in Redding and Shasta County

Most lenders define a first-time buyer as someone who has not owned a home in the last three years, so you may qualify even if you've owned before. Start by talking to a lender about pre-approval, then we look at homes together.

The steps, in order

  1. Get pre-approved with a mortgage lender.
  2. Look at homes with a buyer's agent who works for you.
  3. Make an offer and negotiate it.
  4. Once the offer is accepted, you put down your deposit.
  5. Do the home and pest inspections.
  6. Negotiate repairs or credits, or renegotiate the price, based on what the inspections find.
  7. Close escrow.
